Q:  What is Tuffet Source™

A:  Tuffet Source™ is an online provider of sewing patterns, kits, fabrics and notions for making custom ottomans and footstools (aka - tuffets).  Please visit our "About" page if you are interested in learning more about Tuffet Source™.

Q: What is a tuffet?

A:  Tuffets or ottomans are a low piece of furniture with a soft top generally utilized as a footstool.  They are regularly observed in formal rooms, family game rooms and children rooms.  Recently Tuffets have been spotted in college dorms utilized as a low seat too.

Q: How Hard is it to make a Tuffet?

A:  Our exclusive fusible and fabric foundation patterns contain cut lines and sewing lines printed on broadcloth with easy to follow step-by-step instructions.  And we've simplified access to the tuffet hardware components with the tuffet form kit products.  So you no longer have to locate plywood, foam, batting, drills, saws and other cumbersome tools because our tuffet form kits have it all ready - you focus on the creative and fun part (sewing)!

Q: What is the difference between the Tuffet-In-A-Day Pattern and the 18" Original Pieced Tuffet Pattern ?

A:  The Tuffet-In-A-Day Pattern was designed to be finished in a day and the Original 18" Pieced Tuffet Pattern utilizes 64 strips of fabric and requires a little more time to complete.  Both patterns include step-by-step instructions that guide you through the process of creating a beautiful tuffet treasure of your very own.

Q: I don't understand the different pattern and foundation options.

A:  Tuffet Source™ patterns are printed directly on the foundations (fusible or fabric):

  1. Fusible Interfacing Foundation:  The fusible option has an extra step of ironing the fusible interfacing onto muslin.
  2. Fabric Foundation:  The fabric foundation option saves a little time and because it's slightly thinner than the fusible can also make things a little easier when fitting the cover over the tuffet form.

Q: What is included with the kit?

A: Please see the products section and click on the tuffet kit detail for more information.

Q: What all do I need to start and finish my tuffet project?

A:  You will need a few general sewing items and supplies such as:

  1. General Sewing Items:  Sewing machine, rotary cutter, cutting mat, upholstery stapler and your own fabric.
  2. Supplies from Tuffet Source™:  A Fusible or Fabric Foundation Pattern, the add-a-quarter ruler, a 12” upholstery needle and a Tuffet Source Form Kit .

Note: Customers have told us and we agree that using the curved 3" Sail needle makes it much easier to perform button covering too.  For your convenience the Tuffet Source™ Website carries Fabric options and the necessary Notions as well.

Q: What patterns do I need to make the tuffet cover?

A:   To make the tuffet cover you need one Tuffet Source™ fusible or fabric foundation pattern with instructions (for your first tuffet), and the fabric of your choice.  Save your instructions so that when you make additional tuffets you only need to purchase the "Refill" foundation pattern option.

Note:  Once you complete the tuffet cover you will need a tuffet form kit.

Q: What if I want a different size tuffet?

A: Our exclusive foundation patterns are for readymade 18" Tuffet Source™ tuffet kits.

Q: Are all tuffet kits the same?

A:  No, we don't think they're the same at all.  At Tuffet Source™ only high-quality components are used in our kits.  You can expect your tuffet from Tuffet Source™ to keep its shape like quality furniture.  There are cheaper kits but we've heard that they don't hold their shape and do not have the strength or integrity of our products.
